The Devil’s Own

Quietly your shifting eyes give way to your deep thoughts inside

(You don’t know and I can’t tell you why)

But closer still the panic sets; no turning back and no regrets

(You don’t know and I can’t tell you why)

It’s hard to breathe and think and see straight

When the devil’s own has looked you in the eye

Don’t worry now you’re probably wrong; they’ll help you learn where you belong

(They don’t know, but they can tell you lies)

But you don’t know and I can’t tell you why

It’s hard to breathe and think and see straight

When the devil’s own has looked you in the eye

Soon enough they’re catching on to you not stuck in times long gone

(You don’t know and I can’t tell you why)

Slipping in towards quick decline they’ll all soon know you’ve lost your mind

(They don’t know, but they can tell you lies)

But you don’t know and I can’t tell you why

It’s hard to breathe and think and see straight

When the devil’s own has looked you in the eye

Run away you’re out of time.  I hope you know what you will find

(They don’t know, but they can tell you lies)

Run away you’re out of time.  I hope you know what you will find
